Home Health workers Sick and Tired of Wage Theft in DC

January 25, 2016

Care givers from across the country staged a 'sick in' outside the offices of Health Management Inc in Washington DC today to protest against wage theft by HMI and other agencies in the city.Home care workers and their supporters in the #Fightfor15 movement unfurled "sick of wage theft" signs and banners outside the agency, as others laid down in the street while protesters wearing scrubs and medical face masks pretended to tend to them.In 2014, six DC home care agencies were terminated following a massive FBI investigation that uncovered more than $80 million in Medicaid fraud and left home health care providers working without pay. DC home care workers have filed three lawsuits against agencies alleging widespread wage theft. The demand for workers to enable elderly and disabled people to live with dignity in their own homes is growing exponentially and yet home care workers are amongst the lowest paid people in the country.- See more at: http://www.1199seiu.org/home_health_workers_sick_and_tired_of_wage_theft_in_dc#sthash.KSfRxgAx.dpuf
