In Maryland, An Evening to Celebrate Nurses, Caregivers of All Stripes
January 1, 1970The evening of May 8, 1199SEIU’s RN Council of Maryland/DC held its annual Nurses Celebration. As with years past, there was much laughter, dancing, and camaraderie among the nurses. This year’s celebration also included a special Caregiver Award presented to Prince George’s County Executive Rushern Baker. The RN Council raised more than $1,300 for the Alzheimer’s Association and honored County Executive Baker for the steadfast care he has provided to his wife of 27 years, Christa Beverly, who was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's in 2012. The County Executive insisted, in typical humble fashion, that the award belonged to his teenaged daughter who has provided so much care and support for the entire family since her mother’s illness began."It was a great event for a great cause,” said RN Council member Debbie Self from Lauren Regional Hospital, who helped plan this year’s event. “We work our butts off each year getting the event together. In the end, though, it's always so worth it to come together, celebrate our profession, and take some time to enjoy ourselves.”Debbie also said that the RN Council owes much of the event’s success to 1199’s Lenny Frasier, who has helped organize the Nurses Celebration each year since its inception.- See more at: http://www.1199seiu.org/in_maryland_an_evening_to_celebrate_nurses_caregivers_of_all_stripes#sthash.LMjFgvZn.dpuf
