In less than three months, the Occupy Wall Street movement, with its “99 Percent” formulation, has changed the national political conversation from “deficits” to issues facing working people—jobs, income disparity, corporate control of the political process, “banks get bailed out, we get sold out.” Big banks were forced to drop their attempt to charge consumers for debit card transactions.

It’s understandable why so many working-class and poor people try to take advantage of “Black Friday” bargain shopping for Christmas. On the other hand, Black Friday puts a huge burden on retail store workers and their families who essentially have to give up Thanksgivings so the stores can make bigger profits. (At Target, a non-union chain like most big retail outfits, workers initiated a petition campaign against “Black Friday” because of this.
