The more a member contributes in any fashion the more acknowledgement they receive.

I believe that there is fair representation of women in our Union but I would like to see more in upper leadership positions. I have always been proud of the cultural diversity and the various employment positions represented in the Union's Executive Council.

Absolutely not. I'm sure my remarks will be overlooked, however I have previous experience working for the Union.

I think women should be educated and trained to be in leading positions.

I believe that there are too few women in power. The ones who are do not seem to get the respect and acknowledgement they deserve. Sometimes I feel as if the “old boys” network is universal, including in our Union. Not all our leaders but some.

There are plenty of women Delegates and a fair amount of Organizers, but I don't believe that women are adequately represented as Officers or higher-level leadership. Not in my region anyway. I don't think it's this way with malicious intent, it's just the way it’s always been and they don't see any problem with it. There is one woman in a significant position of leadership and approximately six men. This is not representative of the diversity of our membership. I believe their needs to be more effort to try and cultivate the leadership abilities of the women on staff and the women leaders in the shop.

I think women should be more involved in the leadership because this is an organization where the majority of the members are women.

Women are fairly representative in 1199. But I am not sure about SEIU, because when I went to the San Francisco convention a few years ago, I saw mostly men in key position.

The gender does not matter. A person in a leadership position in the Union should thoroughly understand what a Union is.

If more women who assume leadership roles would pledge to mentor another woman who wants to engage in a leadership role; this would tremendously increase women in leadership.

There are not enough women representatives in the upper tiers of the Union. There are plenty among the lower echelon, but that's a glass ceiling you've got going there.

Women, stand up, take charge, move the world. You can do it! I tell all of our members to get involved, do something, just do it.

I think women should be in leadership positions if they are qualified. Sometimes women do a better job: they have more patience with better listening skills.
