Over 90,000 Healthcare Workers Have Chosen 1199SEIU in the Past 8 Years

As healthcare workers, we devote our lives to caring for others. We strive every day to ensure our patients receive the highest quality of care possible. Members of 1199SEIU, the healthcare workers union, have shown that we can unite for quality patient care, and also work towards a better future for healthcare workers and our families. Over the past eight years, more healthcare workers have united in 1199SEIU than any other union in the country.

Since 2007, more than 7,000 healthcare workers at 55 facilities have joined 1199SEIU in New York alone. In Massachusetts, tens of thousands of home care, nursing home and hospital workers have become 1199SEIU members, including 24,000 Personal Care Attendants who won raises, paid time off and health care benefits. And every month, in election after election, healthcare workers in New Jersey, Maryland and Washington D.C. are uniting together.

Here are some of our most recent election victories:

• In March of this year, 140 caregivers at the Tower Hill Nursing Home in Massachusetts voted to join 1199 and are now on their way to negotiating job improvements.
• In December 2008, over 200 business office and clerical workers voted to join 1199 at Mt. Vernon Hospital in New York.
• In April of 2008, 250 homecare workers at Nursing Enterprises in Washington, D.C. voted overwhelmingly to join 1199 and now have a union voice.
