Sharon Fowler
Dietary Aide | Trans Health Inc | Ellicott City, MD
When the Union first started at Trans Health Inc in 2004, Sharon Fowler was not interested in being involved. But as time passed, she began attending chapter meeting to larn about the benefits she was entitled to as a Union-member.
A dietary aide at the Ellicott City, MD, rehab unit, Sharon saw a flyer about the college scholarship program.
“I asked my Organizer for the application and my daughter, Tiffany, filled out the application. As the months went by, we didn’t think about the scholarship nor did we think Tiffany would win.
“Then I received a bill in the mail for the college tuition. I remembered thinking to myself, what am I going to do, how am I going to pay this money? I started thinking about extra shifts to work. One day out of the clear blue I received a letter in the mail stating that my daughter Tiffany was a winner. She was awarded $1,500.00!
“When I saw the letter I was in shock. I was surprised, happy, and grateful. I want to thank my Union, 1199 SEIU, for having this program and giving my daughter an opportunity to receive higher education.”
