We've developed a new poster outlining the mission of 1199 members: Quality healthcare, good jobs, a voice, unity, fairness and social justice.

Oscar Olivera, who lead the victorious movement in 2000 against the corporate privatization of the water system in Cochabamba, Bolivia, addressed a Manhattan luncheon of unionists, students and activists on June 14 at Cornell University’s School of Industrial Relations.

On June 12 at a midtown Manhattan hotel, with a ceremony that ranged in tone from solemn reverence to emboldened jubilation, over 2,000 rank-and-file Delegates were sworn into office, along with 1199SEIU’s President George Gresham and Secretary –Treasurer Maria Castaneda. Both were overwhelmingly re-elected to their positions for a third term in Union elections conducted in March and April.

The Metro New York Labor Communications Council presented the awards for its yearly journalism competition at the organization’s annual convention June 7 in New York City. 1199SEIU’s publication, Our Life And Times, received six awards in the contest.
