Lucky number 20K: Partners In Care home health aide Anika McFarlane received a gift basket and certificate for being the 20,000th member serviced under Homecare Division initiative launched in 2012.

The Homecare Division of 1199SEIU’s Manhattan headquarters reached a milestone goal on July 16 when Partners In Care home health aide Anika McFarlane walked through the doors. McFarlane was the 20,000th member serviced under a program launched in 2012 that streamlined and unified Union on-site services for 1199SEIU’s homecare workers. Because they don’t work in a centralized location or set hours like other professions, homecare workers can sometimes have difficulty accessing services or scheduling time with Union representatives. This program was designed to eliminate some of those difficulties by centralizing servicing of homecare workers. On July 16, McFarlane came in to the Homecare Division’s to drop off some paperwork to go back to school with help from the Homecare Education Fund. “I’m going back for my RN,” she says. “I was doing it for almost a year, but then I had to stop because of work and family commitments. Now I’m going back. It’s really a good thing to do because it can help move your career and your family forward.”
