Florida

A group of hospital workers in the food and nutrition services departments at eight HCA-affiliated hospitals in South Florida who are members of 1199SEIU recently took action to end disrespect they were feeling from their Sodexo supervisors, a subcontractor that oversees food and nutrition services at the eight HCA-affiliated hospitals. By taking action together and having a constructive conversation with management, the workers were able to successfully address the issue and both parties have benefitted as a result.

To address the issues, the workers from Aventura Hospital, Westside Hospital, Northwest Hospital, Plantation Hospital, St. Lucie Hospital, Palm West Hospital, West Palm Hospital and University Hospital asked for a meeting with human resources where they shared stories of feeling disrespected and experiencing favoritism. Hospital management said that such behavior by any supervisor is unacceptable and pledged to the workers that it would not happen again.

By working together to address issues like this in the future, the workers and management are committed to fostering a positive work environment were employees can best focus on providing quality care to their patients.
