Vaccines are bringing our country back to life. As of early June, some 51% of the U.S. population had received one vaccine dose. Among those 12 years of age and older 50% were fully vaccinated; among those 18 and up, 64% had received at least one shot. Though we are not necessarily in striking distance of the 70% vaccination threshold needed to reach herd immunity, we are making definite progress. At the same time, activists of every stripe are bolstering efforts by building trust and reducing vaccine hesitance in our communities. Read More

In May 2021, over 100 1199SEIU home care members gathered at NYC City Hall. We thanked Senator Majority Leader Chuck Schumer for coming to the rally and pledging to fight for $400 billion to fund home care jobs as part of President Biden’s proposed American Jobs Plan. The American Jobs Plan calls for allocating money to raise wages, improve benefits and make it easier for workers to bargain collectively. Senator Schumer took three 1199 home care masks and pledged to wear them in Washington as he fights to secure funding for home care workers. Read More
