1199SEIU to Hold Inaugural Galas Across Upstate NY

November 1, 2013

On Monday, January 21, 1199SEIU will host Inaugural Galas in the cities of Buffalo, Rochester and Syracuse, New York. The galas are celebrations for the numerous political victories including the re-election of President Barack Obama.

“I’m excited about attending! We have a lot of work that we need to accomplish this year, so it would be nice to have a little fun before we get back to work,” said Vena Person, delegate at Jewish Home of Central New York.

“With corporations dumping so much money into elections, I’m happy to say that the power of the people won this election. Good old hard work, and purple power got the job done this time.”

Will Scott, Chief Delegate at HighPointe/Kaleida and longtime union activist, traveled back and forth with the union to Erie, PA to help register new voters and inform voters about the changes in voter laws last fall. “It was a lot of work, but I feel like we really made a difference in every campaign we were a part of,” Scott said.
