Healthcare Workers with 1199SEIU Applaud Senate Effort to Boost Homecare Industry

Massachusetts largest and fastest growing healthcare union highlights importance of bill that would enhance quality care and jobs in the homecare industry

Boston, MA (November 14, 2017) – Tyrék D. Lee, Sr., Executive Vice President of 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East, issued the following statement in response to the Massachusetts state Senate’s homecare legislation:

“Today’s Senate vote is a win for homecare workers and the thousands of individuals and families they serve across the Commonwealth. As one of the fastest growing industries in Massachusetts, the homecare workforce deserves visibility, professionalization and greater access to training and advocacy opportunities. Just as important, we’ve worked with our partners and allies, including Jane Doe and the Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy (MIRA) Coalition, to create an exemption process that addresses concerns about privacy. The result is a strong bill that will provide much needed oversight of the homecare industry so that we can offer high quality care to patients and families and fair paying homecare jobs to hardworking employees.”
