Healthcare Workers Condemn President Trump’s Executive Order

New executive order undermines health and economic gains Massachusetts has made under the Affordable Care Act

Boston, MA (October 12, 2017) – Tyrék D. Lee, Sr., Executive Vice President of 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East, issued the following statement in response to President Donald Trump’s executive order today:

“President Trump’s reckless healthcare executive order threatens to undermine the health and economic gains Massachusetts has achieved as a result of the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

While the full impacts must still be analyzed, this executive order could drive up healthcare costs for Massachusetts residents and weaken protections for people with pre-existing conditions. At the same time, it enables the sale of worthless “junk” health plans with high deductibles that fail to provide adequate coverage to individuals.

The healthcare workers of Massachusetts condemn this disgraceful executive order, which jeopardizes quality, affordable healthcare and the good healthcare jobs that Commonwealth individuals, families and communities rely upon.”
