Healthcare Workers with 1199SEIU Highlight Benefits of New Homecare Legislation Signed into Law

Bill creates homecare registry that will enhance patient care and provide a boost to thousands of Massachusetts homecare workers

Boston, MA (November 24, 2017) – Tyrék D. Lee, Sr., Executive Vice President of 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East, issued the following statement in response to new homecare legislation signed into law:

"This new legislation is a major boost for thousands of Massachusetts homecare workers and the families they serve. We want to thank Governor Baker, Speaker DeLeo and Senate President Rosenberg and all of our partners who worked so hard to create a strong bill that will bring much needed oversight of the homecare industry, enhance patient care and provide better understanding of the training needs of the homecare workforce, while also providing an exemption process to address privacy concerns.

Homecare is one of the Commonwealth’s fastest growing industries, but it remains largely unregulated. This registry is an important step to improve the visibility of the workforce and industry oversight. It will also provide new training and advocacy opportunities for hardworking homecare employees so they can achieve quality careers.”
