1199SEIU hosted on April 27 at its Manhattan headquarters members of U.S. Labor Against the War and Zenroren, Japan’s National Confederation of Trade Unions. The groups are participating in meeting exchange program as part of a conference on nuclear non-proliferation. Members Bob Kingsley, Director of Organizing at United Electrical Workers and Zenroren Vice President Yuri Nagao were moderators of a seminar on the role of trade unions for a world without nuclear weapons and military alliances. Zenroren Vice President Yukihiro Nomura was the keynote speaker and addressed 1199SEIU’s Executive Committee. Pres. George Gresham welcomed Zenroren members to 1199SEIU and re-enforced the union’s commitment to peace, solidarity and the nuclear-free movement in Japan.
