This week we welcome 106 new members into the 1199SEIU family at Staten Island University Hospital.

The Physician Assistants voted to join their co-workers in 1199 in order to have a greater say in their future work environment and to be able to negotiate for higher wages and better benefits in their contract.

By providing compassionate and professional care to the Staten Island community, our new colleagues embody the spirit of the 1199 local.

1199SEIU is the largest healthcare workers’ union in the US, with more than 420,000 members in five states along the Eastern seaboard. We are one of the fastest growing unions in the country.

As well as having a larger say in their working lives, the newest members at SIUH voted to join our union to enable them to negotiate for 1199’s child care, job security, affordable quality healthcare, retirement security and educational benefits.
