We’re standing up for our residents, ourselves, our community and all of our families!

The winter holidays are supposed to be full of good will and hope for a better tomorrow. Unfortunately, it is challenging for the residents at Putnam Ridge and us, the workers who provide care and comfort to those residents, to be overjoyed this holiday season. We are regularly working short-staffed, which could be undermining the quality and continuity of care our residents deserve. But the nursing home’s management appears to not be paying attention to this critical situation.

We have ideas on how to make improvements, but no one is listening. Studies confirm that nursing homes that offer good wages and benefits have been able to mitigate staff turnover, and in turn improve quality and continuity of care. That’s why our proposals make sense -- they are in line with 1199SEIU nursing home contract provisions throughout the Hudson Valley; living wages, and affordable & comprehensive benefits.

While the nursing home’s owners and operators live in luxury, we, all too often, find it tremendously hard to make ends meet at home. There is nothing about the current situation, which includes a revolving door of dedicated healthcare workers, that benefits anyone other than the owners and management. It’s especially unfair to Putnam Ridge residents and their families who rely on quality and continuity of care delivered by a stable and experienced workforce, and us, the exhausted caregivers who work short-staffed and provide the best possible care under challenging circumstances.

Respecting the work of caregivers, treating us with dignity, and investing in the workforce is essential to quality resident care.
