Tenacity and Teamwork Help Plaza Nursing Home Workers Win a Good Contract

Caregivers from four Plaza Health Network nursing homes in Miami have ratified a new contract that includes higher wages and bonuses as well as no takeaways.
Securing this deal was challenging because Aventura Plaza was slated to be sold and it was unclear if the new owner would agree to sign off on a new contract. Negotiations ran into the night and at times were tense. But, the bargaining team persevered.
“I am proud of the way our bargaining committee stayed unified despite many challenges,” said CNA Marie Petit Frere. "It's a good example of the power we have as workers when we come together through our union to negotiate."
Four Plaza facilities now have a new agreement: Jackson, Sinai, Arch and Aventura Plaza which was signed and agreed to by the new owners. Congratulations!
Consulate Worker Wins Job Back Plus Back Pay and Benefits
When Hillcrest driver Jorge Tschebotarjew was unjustly fired, he fought back. His tenacity and a strong union contract helped him to win his job back plus back pay and benefits.
“It wasn’t easy. But, with the strength of my coworkers behind me, we were able to right this wrong. I am elated and grateful to get back to a job I enjoy,” said Tschebotarjew.
Strong Contract Helps CNA Get Pay Increase She Deserves Plus Retroactive Pay
After a job promotion, Jeanne Vilna, a restorative CNA at Avante at Boca, didn’t get a pay increase. She decided to stand up for her rights and won higher pay and back wages.
“The increase is almost $2 per hour. I will use the extra money to take care of my three young children and family in Haiti,” said Vilna.

Los cuidadores de cuatro hogares geriátricos de Plaza Health Network en Miami han ratificado un nuevo contrato que incluye salarios más altos y bonificaciones, sin quitarles nada.
Lograr este contrato fue todo un reto porque la venta de Aventura Plaza estaba programada y no se sabía si el nuevo propietario estaría de acuerdo en firmar un nuevo contrato. Las negociaciones se prolongaron hasta altas horas de la noche y a veces fueron tensas.
“Estoy orgullosa de la forma en que nuestro comité de negociación se mantuvo unido a pesar de los muchos desafíos”, dijo la CNA, Marie Petit Frere. "Es un buen ejemplo del poder que tenemos como trabajadores cuando nos unimos en nuestro sindicato para negociar”.

Empleado de Consulate recupera su trabajo además de su salario retroactivo y beneficios
Cuando el conductor de Hillcrest, Jorge Tschebotarjew, fue despedido injustamente, se defendió. Su tenacidad y un sólido contrato sindical le ayudaron a recuperar su trabajo, además de su salario y beneficios.
"No fue fácil. Pero, con el respaldo de la fortaleza de mis compañeros de trabajo, pudimos enmendar este error. Me siento eufórico y agradecido de volver a un trabajo que me gusta", dijo Tschebotarjew.
Un contrato importante ayuda a una CNA a obtener un aumento salarial que se merece, y salario retroactivo
Después de un ascenso laboral, Jeanne Vilna, una CNA restauradora de Avante en Boca, no recibió un aumento de salario. Decidió hacer valer sus derechos y obtuvo un mayor salario y el pago de salario retroactivo.
"El aumento es de casi 2 dólares por hora. Utilizaré el dinero extra para cuidar a mis tres hijos pequeños y a mi familia en Haití", dijo Vilna.
