More than 125 workers at the hospital in Irving, NY, are now members of the state’s largest and fastest growing healthcare union
Buffalo, NY – Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses and Technicians in Irving, New York, have overwhelmingly voted to join 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East.
Kathi Manning, a Registered Nurse at the TLC Health Network, said: “I can’t wait to work with 1199 to improve things at TLC. They are a great healthcare union and great people to work with. We are looking forward to having more of a say around patient care standards and negotiating wage increases, affordable insurance and continuing education benefits.”
Vicki Bradigan, a Radiologic Technologist at TLC, added: “We need more fairness on the job. With a union, we are looking forward to seeing an end to favoritism and seeing work ethic, experience and dedication to patient care counting for more.”
Tammy Yeager, a Registered Nurse added: “In the ever changing world of healthcare it is important that the employees have a voice in the change. Being part of 1199 will give this small market hospital a bigger voice for our future.”
For Rachael Conklin, a Registered Nurse at TLC, the main reasons she voted Yes for 1199 was job security and better benefits and “to be able to provide for my children.”
As well as having a larger say in their working lives, the newest members at TLC Health Network say they voted to join 1199 for the ability to bargain the high-quality pension, affordable healthcare, educational benefits and job security that thousands of 1199 members enjoy.
