1199ers to Maryland Lawmakers: Raise the Wage!

June 30, 2014

1199 members, along with social justice and civil rights activists, will rally on January 14 in Annapolis to call on lawmaker to raise the state minimum wage. They’ll be joined by Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley and other state leaders who will help move a minimum wage increase this year’s General Assembly.Countless working Marylanders are struggling to make ends meet, even as the economy has rebounded and corporate profits soar. Maryland is in the richest state in the nation and the second most expensive, but the state minimum wage of $7.25 an hour hasn’t kept up with the rising costs of rent, food and transportation. With faith, civil rights and progressive organizations, 1199 members formed the Raise Maryland coalition. Together we are dedicated to raising the state minimum wage to $10.10 an hour, increasing pay for tipped workers, and ensuring the minimum wage keeps up with the cost of living.Learn more and sign up to join us, January 14- See more at: http://www.1199seiu.org/1199ers_to_maryland_lawmakers_raise_the_wage#sthash.FP97FUrv.dpuf
