Congratulations, Planned Parenthood Workers!
August 27, 2025
On Tuesday, August 12, workers at seven Planned Parenthood locations in Maryland voted to join 1199SEIU! 1199 represents Planned Parenthood workers in NYC, Long Island, Massachusetts, and the Planned Parenthood Federation.
Ninety workers will be in the unit. The union will represent medical assistants, medical office assistants, registered nurses, nurse practitioners, nurse midwives, call center associates, community/outreach coordinators, and communications workers.
Kim Hanna, RN, says "reproductive rights are more at threat than ever before. As frontline workers who are committed to the long fight, we're unionizing to ensure we have a seat at the table to advocate for ourselves and our patients."
Rachel Rossel, RN, says "Abortion access is critical to our community, and to neighboring areas where access has been curtailed. We have an amazing team, and caring for our staff helps us continue to care for our patients. To continue the fight for reproductive rights, we must join the fight for workers' rights."
Workers cite looming Medicaid cuts, transparency, and a desire to have a better relationship with leadership as reasons for their union push. We're proud of them and so excited to have them in our 1199 family!
