Maryland 1199ers Join President Obama in Call to Raise the Wage!

January 1, 1970

The morning after his State of Union address calling for 2014 to be “a year of action,” President Obama brought his message to a Costco in suburban Maryland. Members of 1199 were there to heed the call to action and bolster the campaign to raise Maryland’s minimum wage.“It was the most exhilarating thing I have ever been to – everything he said was on point,” said Denise Wall, one of a group of member political organizers working with the union to educate Marylanders on the Affordable Care Act.Wall especially appreciated the President’s messaging regarding working women.“He really understands that women need to be equal in the workplace,” explained Wall. “We work hard at home and on the job, and we need wages that will let us take care of our children. He gets it.”She and fellow member-organizers urged all 1199 members to get involved in the fight to raise Maryland’s minimum wage this year. “We’ve got to get to $10.10!”Learn more at RaiseMaryland.org- See more at: http://www.1199seiu.org/maryland_1199ers_join_president_obama_in_call_to_raise_the_wage#sthash.V9SC0iO5.dpuf
