Unions Across Boston Medical Center System Call on Fair Contract Now for 4,000 Members

April 2, 2026

The BMC Union Coalition represents more than 7,000 dedicated employees working at BMC affiliated facilities, including BMC Main Campus, BMC Brighton, BMC South, BMC Brockton Mental Health Center, and Boston Healthcare for the Homeless, who are committed to making the BMC facilities the best they can be for our patients and our communities.  We do so by holding our administration accountable for providing us with fair, equitable contracts that recognize the value of our work, and that provide us the resources to honor BMC’s stated mission of delivering exceptional care without exception.

Honoring that mission has become more difficult for our coalition members at BMC Brockton Behavioral Health, BMC South and BMC Brighton, where negotiations with the MNA and 1199 SEIU have dragged on.  Coalition union members in the MNA, CIR-SEIU and 1199SEIU at the BMC Main Campus have also begun bargaining, bringing over 4,000 workers into negotiations by May 1st, 2026! While workers struggle to provide exceptional care for patient every day, management is not showing the same commitment, leaving workers concerned with their survivability rather than stability, making it harder to retain experienced staff as well as hire new workers.

All union members in the BMC Union Coalition support their siblings that have been in these prolonged negotiations and urge BMC management to reach settlement now. In the case of Brockton Behavioral Health, they have been engaged in bargaining for their first contract for over a year!

It is impossible to properly serve the most vulnerable in our communities if those who care for them are underserved. It is time for our administration to be fair to those who care.
