Service Workers Now Earning $15 per hour

Rochester, NY – More than 50 union Healthcare Workers at Anthony Jordan Health Care Center in Rochester voted to ratify a 2-year agreement with their employer this week following months of negotiations. Caregivers are represented by 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East.

The two-year agreement includes a 4% wage increase over the life of the agreement and fully funded employer provided health insurance. Service workers will now earn no less than $15 per hour which is above the area minimum wage.

Union members can now use one of four already existing float holidays to celebrate Juneteenth. A $1,000 retention bonus for Licensed Practical Nurses, and a $1,000 sign on bonus to help recruit new Licensed Practical Nurses will be offered. The new union contract also includes an additional bereavement day. Caregivers with more than 30 years of service will get an additional 1.25% wage increase for their dedication to serving the community.

“I’m thankful to be part of the union, says Lisa Booker-Downer, Licensed Practical Nurse. “If it was not for 1199’s health insurance and benefits, I would not be able to stay a Jordan. I could not afford to pay the high cost of health insurance that Jordan offers the non-union workers because they have to pay for it. With this contract, my health insurance is fully paid by the employer. I was also able to get training paid for by my union training fund and that makes more money available to pay my bills, says Downer.

The agreement runs from January 1, 2022 to December 31, 2023.

Healthcare workers at Anthony Jordan work as Licensed Practical Nurses, Alcoholism Counselors, Medical Records Clerks, Building Service Workers, Interpreter/Clerk Nursing Assistants, Bilingual Outreach Workers, School Health Assistant/Bilingual, Receiving/Purchasing Clerks, WIC Office Assistant, Receptionist/Appointment Operator, Secretary, WIC Office Assistant/Site Coordinator, Medical Records Clerk, Referral Clerk, Dental Assistant, WIC Certification Aide, Accounts Receivable Clerk Billing Specialist, Financial Counselor/Biller, MIS Specialist, Computer Systems Technician, Medical Records Technician, Medical Records Correspondence Technician, Breastfeeding Coordinator, Counselor Teen Outreach, Counselor HIV/PPC, Dental Hygienist, and Case Manager HIV/PPC.
