1199SEIU Members Endorse Governor Andrew M. Cuomo for Mayor of New York alongside dozens of down-ballot NYC candidates

April 24, 2025

1199SEIU today announced their endorsements for the 2025 New York City elections, including Governor Andrew M. Cuomo for Mayor of New York, Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine for Comptroller, Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, as well as endorsements for District Attorneys, Borough Presidents, and City Council members.

As Governor of New York, Cuomo stood with 1199SEIU healthcare workers in winning historic victories for working New Yorkers, including the Fight for $15, expanding Paid Family Leave, winning marriage equality, and defending immigrant rights. While Washington D.C. wages an unprecedented assault on health care access and Medicaid funding, Cuomo’s record of delivering for healthcare workers, their patients and communities stands as one of continued success.

“New York is at a crossroads, and we need leaders who will stand up for working people, fight for good union jobs, and ensure every New Yorker–no matter their zip code–has access to quality healthcare, affordable housing, and a living wage,” said George Gresham, President of 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East. “The 200,000 members of 1199SEIU in New York City are proud to stand tall behind Governor Cuomo to build a fairer, healthier and more just New York for all. At a time when our city is facing enormous challenges, we need leaders with the experience and vision to deliver real results—our members recognize that Governor Cuomo is the clear choice to lead New York forward. This is why 1199SEIU healthcare workers are proud not to merely endorse these proven leaders, but to back them up with the decisive voter outreach and turnout efforts that our dedicated, politically active membership is known for.”
