1199SEIU unequivocally stands against the federal government weaponizing the justice system to intimidate healthcare providers to stop providing life-saving gender affirming healthcare.

We are deeply disappointed to see the termination of gender affirming care at NYU, Mt. Sinai, and other healthcare institutions throughout the country for trans youth. This care is critical, legitimate, and necessary medical care that saves lives.

Additionally, we are deeply disturbed by the invasion of healthcare privacy that comes with federal government subpoenas demanding protected personal health information of minor patients who received healthcare at these institutions.

Finally, we are devoted to protecting the privacy and rights of our members, whose entire personnel records are being demanded by the government due to their involvement, however minimal, in the provision of healthcare to trans youth. We issued a statement on February 24, 2025, condemning the Trump administration’s attacks targeting trans people and continue to stand by our commitments to protect the trans community.
