Healthcare workers and supporters held a silent protest outside St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach along with others across the state in solidarity for #WalkoutForBlackLives.

WEST PALM BEACH — As a nurse in the intensive care unit at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Marthany Jean-Baptiste knows stress.

For the last several months, she’s helped patients with the coronavirus stay alive while trying to protect herself. Now, when she gets home from work and tries to relax, she turns on the TV and sees coverage of police brutality and protests with renewed calls for reform and racial justice.

“We’re still dealing with the COVID crisis and now we’re fighting what feels like a plague that has rolled over us for centuries,” she said.

Jean-Baptiste joined other healthcare workers and supporters Thursday afternoon for a silent protest outside the trauma hospital on 45th Street as part of a statewide show of solidarity for #WalkoutForBlackLives.
