BUFFALO, N.Y (WKBW) — Healthcare workers met with local elected officials Friday to warn of the consequences of Medicaid cuts proposed for nursing homes across the state.

The cuts to the nursing homes, which total nearly $1 billion over two years, could mean job losses, community facility closures and cuts to care.

Representatives from the Healthcare Education Project joined healthcare workers represented by 1199SEIU, United Healthcare Workers East and New York State Assemblyman Patrick Burke Friday to share personal stories of the impact cuts could have on residents, communities and jobs.

“All nursing homes will be impacted if these cuts go through,” says Sharina Morris, a L.P.N. at Seneca Health Care Center. “Truth is that we need more healthcare workers, not less.”
