Bronx, NY - This morning, the LPNs, CNAs and dietary employees represented by 1199SEIUat the Concourse Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in the Bronx, took to the picket lines for an informational protest against management’s refusal to bargain a new contract. The workers have been without a contract since September 2016.

“It is always a fight and a struggle every time we try to negotiate with this employer,” said Alma Pitts, a CNA and 1199 delegate of 30 years standing. “Management will not even agree dates for negotiation meetings with us. They are not bargaining in good faith. We have bills to pay like everyone else, but unlike our fellow workers at other Bronx institutions, we have not had an increase in almost two years.”

Workers are also concerned about staffing levels at the Bronx facility. “Almost every weekend, we are short-staffed,” said Ms. Pitts. “We do the best we can, but without enough staff, levels of patient care are bound to be affected.”
