WHY?:  As early voting for the mid-term elections is underway, local organizations are joining together to make sure voters get to the polls early to cast their ballots. The community focused event is focused on encouraging voter participation.  Before the motorcade to the polling location, participants will gather for a rally to speak out about the importance of early voting.

“Many people in our community feel that their vote doesn’t matter. That’s why it’s critical that we become issue-based voters and recognize the connection between our vote and the issues that directly impact our lives, including healthcare. By understanding where candidates stand on healthcare policy and examining their track records, we can make informed decisions at the ballot box,” said Jasmine Westbrook, Healthcare Advocate, Healthcare Education Project.

“It’s very important that everyone who wants to vote can go vote. This community event will make sure that all voters can get to the polls early,” said Maurice Brown, 1199SEIU Political Coordinator.

Early voting in New York state runs through Sunday, November 1st. Election day is Tuesday, November 3rd.
