“It should be shocking that a state senator would cite white supremacist talking points to justify a radical rollback of women’s healthcare and reproductive rights.”

Statement by Monica Russo, executive vice president of 1199SEIU Florida, in response to Florida Senator Dennis Baxley’s extremist attacks and white-supremacist myths regarding reproductive rights and women’s healthcare.

“It should be shocking that a state senator would cite white supremacist talking points to justify a radical rollback of women’s healthcare and reproductive rights.  If GOP legislators truly want to reduce abortions in our state, then provide more support for contraception, sex education and other healthcare programs that are proven to work and improve women’s health.  That would be real leadership and compassion, in contrast to racist myths and paranoia. We fought hard for decades to earn our rights and freedoms, and we’re going to fight just as forcefully today to keep them.” -- Monica Russo, executive vice president of 1199 SEIU Florida.
