November 10, 2011

Weeks of knocking on doors, calling voters, and rallying support for candidates in contested districts throughout New Jersey have led to sweeping victories for elected officials who support working families. 1199SEIU and other local labor organizations provided thousands of members wore out their knuckles knocking on doors to ensure victory in Tuesday’s elections.

At stake was rightwing Govenor Chris Christie’s attempt to have both NJ legislative houses under his control.

“We support candidates who are going to support working families, and not just those on Wall Street,” said Wesna Blaise, an LPN at Cranford Health Extended Care. “We are committed to making our voices heard in every election, and ensuring a better community for hardworking individuals.”

Democrats retained control of the legislature, with a 24-16 margin in the Senate and a 48-32 margin in the Assembly, picking up one assembly seat in South Jersey. 1199SEIU New Jersey nursing home and home care members look forward to working with all of the state’s elected officials in order to ensure a better future for ourselves and our families.
