Milly Silva, Democratic Candidate for NJ Lt. Governor and EVP of 1199SEIU, Honors Women’s Equality Day

August 26, 2013

On August 26th, 1920, after more than three generations of a courageous campaign, women earned the right to vote. Today we celebrate and reflect on 93 years of cracks being broken in the glass ceiling and vow to continue the fight for equality for all Americans.

In honor of today’s historical importance, Milly Silva, Executive Vice President of 1199SEIU New Jersey Region and the Democratic Lt. Governor candidate released the following statement.

“Today we honor the many brave women who have come before us and paved the way for a more equal nation. However, with the constant attack on women’s rights from an extreme right-wing agenda it is more important than ever we band together to continue the fight. Women deserve equal pay for equal work, a living wage, affordable child care, access to life saving healthcare and to be able to cast their vote with confidence. We know that when women vote, women win. Together we must honor our past sisters by being persistent in our fight until we achieved equality for all.”
