Healthcare Worker Committee Unanimously Votes To Endorse Mayoral Candidate,
Plans Set To Help Get Out The Vote

Buffalo, NY –  Late last week, 1199SEIU’s Executive Council voted to endorse Sean Ryan for Mayor of Buffalo following a unanimous recommendation by the local rank-and-file endorsement committee. More than two dozen committee members representing thousands of Buffalo hospital, nursing home, and homecare workers asked the candidate tough questions on housing, senior care, and youth programs in the City, among other issues last month.

“Sean has always been there to support healthcare workers. Anytime that we have called him for our school-based health centers which serve children in Buffalo, he’s been there to help get funding and I support him 100%,” said Kim Utech, Nurse Practitioner at Kaleida Health’s Oishei Children’s Hospital.

Sean Ryan supported 1199 members during informational pickets and strikes by walking alongside caregivers as a show of solidarity. At the state level, Ryan fought for unemployment to begin sooner during labor strikes and fought to ensure that NYS Department of Health uphold the safe staffing law in nursing homes.

Over the next month, healthcare workers plan to make calls and knock doors to help get out the vote for Sean Ryan in the city of Buffalo.

Early voting begins October 25 and runs through November 2. Election day is Tuesday, November 4.
