This week more than 120 employees across 15 sites of Auburn Memorial Medical Services outside Syracuse, New York, voted by two to one to join the 1199SEIU family. On November 18, the RNs, LPNs, Medical Assistants, Clerical workers, Coders, Schedulers and X-ray technicians became part of the 1199SEIU family.

The healthcare workers across the outpatient facilities at AMMS voted overwhelmingly to join 1199 in order to be able to negotiate a written contract to provide them with job security, paid time off and regular pay increases.

Anne Bishop, an RN at AMMS Urology, and one of the leading activists said: “As healthcare workers, we need to have job security, fair pay and benefits that are affordable for working families.” With the support of 1199SEIU, the AMMS healthcare workers are confident that they will achieve significant improvements for both themselves and their patients.

1199SEIU is the largest healthcare workers’ union in the US, with more than 420,000 members in five states along the Eastern seaboard. We are one of the fastest growing unions in the country. As well as having a larger say in their working lives, the newest members at AMMS voted to join our union to ensure fair treatment and regular wage increases.
