Trauma Certified RN Certification Review
PURPOSE: The program is designed for Professional Registered Nurses who specialize in trauma care to prepare for the certification exam for Trauma Certified Registered Nurse (TCRN). The review course contents are based on the TCRN exam with topics on the assessment and management of Traumatic injuries of the chest, Abdomen, Spinal cord/ head, Genito-Urinary, and special populations such as pediatric, obstetric, and geriatric patients. The course will feature lectures, interactive discussion, and practice test sessions.
TARGET AUDIENCE: Professional Registered Nurses in Emergency Department, Surgical Intensive Care Units, and Post-anesthesia Recovery Care Units.
Program Objectives:
• Describe the aspects of the continuum of care from the prehospital setting, acute care,
rehabilitation, and end-of-life management.
• State the assessment, mechanism of injury, and potential complications of traumatic injuries
• Discuss the different types of shock and current treatment modalities, including the management of
permissive hypotension with damage control resuscitation and massive transfusion
• Describe appropriate nursing interventions and medical and surgical treatment modalities for
traumatic injuries
• Identify the issues in disaster management, and emerging trends for trauma management
• Describe the professional issues of trauma regulations and accreditation, quality management,
ethics, and safety issues.
Participant Requirements:
• Knowledge of basic anatomy and physiology of the human body
• Knowledge of basic resuscitation skills
• For the TCRN exam, the Board Certification for Emergency Nurses (BCEN®) recommends two years of trauma
nursing experience at an average of 1,000 practice hours per year across the trauma care continuum
