1199SEIU Members Stand Up for Comprehensive Immigration Reform

1199SEIU members joined tens of thousands of activists for a rally in front of the U.S. Capitol on April 10 during a national day of action for comprehensive immigration reform.1199 caregivers were continuing their advocacy for legislation now making its way through Congress that will bring 11 million people out of the shadows and fix our broken immigration system. Principles of fair reform include:Establishing a reasonable roadmap to citizenship Keeping families together Ending employer intimidation and exploitation of undocumented workers“I’m here supporting people who don’t have papers,” said Rouguiatou Bah, who is from Guinea, West Africa and a member of 1199SEIU at Ellicott City Health & Rehabilitation Center in Maryland. “We need reform so that people that are already here can be brought into the system, no longer live in fear, and be able to visit their families back home.”Also in attendance was Renee Neal, a delegate from Johns Hopkins Hospital who follows national politics closely, who explained, “I’m here because people need equal rights. We’re all one.It doesn’t make a difference where you’re from or what your skin color is.
