Maryland/DC 1199ers Travel to VA to Re-elect President Obama

1199SEIU members from Maryland and the District of Columbia are traveling to Virginia as part of the union’s Weekend Warriors program to re-elect President Barack Obama. Each weekend, several dozen members volunteer their time to knock on doors and help convince voters in this important swing state to cast their ballot for the President on November 6.The Weekend Warriors are fired up. Gail Kingman, an RN at Civista Medical Center, said her reasons for supporting the President were simple, “It’s personal. Healthcare is such an important issue to me, both because of my work and for my family.”Demetrius Smith, a nutrition tech at Prince George’s Hospital, said, “I’m definitely in Obama mode,” said Smith. She volunteered extensively to elect President Obama in 2008, and explained why she’s back: “We’ve got to keep him in there. He’s still got work to do. And it’s harder this time around.
