1199 Healthcare Workers Raise Money, March For Babies

May 21, 2013

1199SEIU healthcare workers in New York’s North Country took to the streets in Plattsburgh on May 4th to participate in the annual March of Dimes “March for Babies” to bring awareness of the dangers facing babies born prematurely and to fundraise for our tiniest miracles.

1199SEIU members like Holly Ouimette, who works in the H. K. Freedman Renal Center (KDU), also came out to honor and memorialize her twin nephews who were born prematurely.

Workers at Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital held a bake sale and sold t-shirts to raise over $1,000 for the March of Dimes for the second year in a row. This money will directly support programs that help moms have healthy, full-term pregnancies, and fund research to end premature births in the future.

For many at the hospital this walk supports a cause close to their hearts. Bridget Gadway, a Billing and Supply Coordinator in Cardiology at CVPH, coordinated the 1199 team for the event. “I do this because I have three beautiful kids of my own and I love babies,” she said.

The healthcare workers were greeted by Congressman Bill Owens at the event who thanked them for the great work they do in the community. The 1199 team hopes to raise even more money for this and other great causes in the future.
