Syracuse Tax-Dodgers Take on the 99% in Tax Day Dodge Ball Game

January 5, 2012

On Tuesday, April 17th, 1199SEIU, SEIU Local 200 United, and other community allies hosted a dodge ball game in Syracuse’s Clinton Square between Team 99% and the wealthy 1%. The action was intended to remind taxpayers about who are paying taxes, and who are dodging their fair share.

Following the dodge ball game, members of the 99% signed the balls and delivered them to some of the most notorious tax-dodgers in Syracuse, including Bank of America, Verizon, AT&T, mall developer Bob Congel, and Congresswoman Ann Marie Buerkle, who was elected MVP of the 1% because they “couldn’t do it without her help.”

The Tax-Day Dodge Ball Game is just one event in a series that the 99% will host to raise awareness of the corporate loop-holes that are allowing wealthy companies to pay little or no money in taxes while the middle class continues to struggle.
