Protesting lack of a new labor contract and lack of respect.

What: One Day Walkout at Anthony L. Jordan Health Center
Date: TODAY: Monday, April 30
Best time for interviews: 9am and 12pm
Location: Anthony L. Jordan Health Center - 82 Holland Street, Rochester, NY

This morning, 65 licensed practical nurses, medical technicians, nursing assistants, clerical and service employees represented by 1199SEIU, United Healthcare Workers East at the Anthony L. Jordan Health Center will stage a walkout and picket to protest management’s wage freeze proposal.  The staff will return to work on Tuesday.

“I love my job.  So deciding not to go to work for one day was not easy for me.” said Minerva Felix-Torres.  “But the truth is that when management treats the workers poorly, they are also disrespecting our patients and the people in our community that come here for care.  That is worth taking a stand against.”  Felix-Torres is a medical referral secretary who has worked at Jordan in various capacities for nearly 40 years.

Negotiations for a new contract began November 15, 2017 and a federal mediator has been overseeing the talks.  In response to Anthony Jordan’s 2018 wage freeze proposal the 1199SEIU Negotiating Committee submitted a plan to completely off-set the cost of a modest wage increase with funds rebated from a health insurance plan surplus. Jordan management refused to accept the offer even though it provided for no labor cost increase in 2018.
