Floridians Call on Governor Rick Scott to Stop His Voter Purge

Floridians targeted by Florida Governor Rick Scott’s voter purge held a press conference on Wednesday calling on the governor to stop the purge and end the discrimination against eligible minority voters. The purge has improperly identified thousands of U.S. citizens who are eligible to vote.

Organizations that work with immigrants and Puerto Ricans filed a lawsuit Tuesday in a Miami federal court. The lawsuit contends the push to remove voters violates federal law because it's within 90 days of an election. The groups also contend the effort is discriminatory because Hispanics represent a majority of names on the list created by state election officials.

A string of voter advocacy groups sued Florida on Tuesday, claiming the state's recent noncitizen voter purge unfairly discriminates against minority voters…The lawsuit was filed on behalf of the Florida Immigrant Coalition, National Congress for Puerto Rican Rights, Florida New Majority and SEIU United, a labor union representing health care workers.
