New Jersey 1199SEIU Members Mourn the Passing of Sen. Lautenberg

June 4, 2013

1199SEIU members in New Jersey are mourning the death of Senator Frank Lautenberg, who passed away at age 89 after a long illness.

As the son of impoverished immigrants, Sen. Lautenberg never forgot his roots and championed the causes of working families throughout his three terms in public office.

1199ers remember him for his consistent defense of the right of workers to organize, his efforts to protect our communities by getting guns off the streets, his support of women’s rights and equal pay for equal work, his leadership on environmental issues, and his commitment to bringing about comprehensive immigration reform.

Sen. Lautenberg led an exemplary life and 1199SEIU members were proud to stand by him as he fought to protect the American Dream for people of all walks of life. We offer our heartfelt condolences to Sen. Lautenberg’s family and friends as we honor his legacy and celebrate his many years of dedicated service to the people of New Jersey and the country.
