Florida

On Tuesday, February 26, the Good Government Initiative and former Miami-Dade County Commissioner Katy Sorenson hosted a panel of local experts in South Florida, including 1199SEIU Florida nurse organizer Betsy Marville, RN, to discuss how the Affordable Care Act will impact healthcare in our state.

More than 50 people were in attendance at the Florida Blue office in Doral to hear thoughts from public and private hospital administrators, Florida State Senator Rene Garcia and Marville.

On behalf of caregivers across Florida, Marville shared the critical need for the legislature to accept federal dollars that will expand Medicaid coverage to more than 1 million uninsured Floridians.

“Many of the people who will be impacted by the positive changes in the Affordable Care Act are working families who have been hit hard by the recession,” said Marville. “The impact of Medicaid expansion is very straightforward and will provide healthcare coverage for more than one million people. By expanding Medicaid we will save lives, create jobs, and strengthen our economy.”
