At Blake Medical Center in Bradenton, FL, hospital workers in one of the departments frequently faced changing policies and procedures until the workers came together and collectively approached management.
Workers felt there was a lack of respect in the department and at times, workers were prohibited from drinking a beverage while working and were forced to go to the break room, which had limited access.
With many workers considering quitting or requesting a transfer, union delegate Lee Stirrat held a department meeting with her co-workers to develop a plan together that would address these issues.
After the workers documented the issues with management, the hospital made changes in the department to address the workers’ concerns.
By standing together and effectively addressing issues with management, union members at Blake Medical Center have brought about a positive change in their working conditions, which allows them to deliver even better patient care.
