At HCA-affiliated hospital Largo Medical Center in Largo, FL, 25 miles north of St. Petersburg, healthcare workers represented by 1199SEIU are constantly monitoring hospital conditions to make sure patients receive the best care possible. In recent discussions with management, the workers felt like not enough time was being allotted to effectively develop solutions to the challenges they face at the hospital.

1199SEIU member leaders at the facility opened a dialog with the assistant director of nursing and came to an agreement that the staffing issues committee consisting of labor and management, which they pushed for and secured in their union contract, would meet once a month for two hours, instead of one, for the next sixth months.

By working together on the staffing issues committee, labor and management hope to address challenges and develop solutions that will improve patient care and working conditions at Largo.
