Holding an event with Trump – who has stirred up anti-immigrant sentiment through scapegoating – just steps from where immigrant Marcelo Lucero was stabbed to death in a hate crime, is an affront to Lucero’s family and our entire state. Trump and the extreme right-wing are trying to divide working people with hatred, and distract us from economic inequality and the other real issues our nation has to confront. The way forward is through unity and compassion, and we call on all Long Islanders and all New Yorkers to join caregivers and community members in protesting this disgraceful event.”
