Statement from Massachusetts' Largest Healthcare Union Re: Partners' Acquisition of Hallmark Health and Consolidation Plan at North Shore Medical Center

“Healthcare workers are concerned that the Partners plan and its Hallmark acquisition may in fact increase costs for consumers while reducing jobs for caregivers and services for patients. At this time, the impacted communities can ill-afford the loss in jobs or medical services that Partners is proposing. As the Department of Justice continues to investigate the Partners acquisition of South Shore Medical Center, healthcare workers will be calling for a thorough review of these new plans which appear aimed at consolidating rather than expanding services. Healthcare workers will be monitoring the proposal closely and will promote accountability where necessary to protect the interests of patients, consumers and caregivers.” – Veronica Turner, 1199SEIU Executive Vice President
