It’s election season. There are numerous municipal seats up for grabs in communities across the state of Florida. It’s been just a few months since 1199ers pulled out all the stops to secure a full-term for New York State Governor Kathy Hochul. Members were able to feel their power in Pennsylvania too, when their canvassing helped secure a narrow victory for John Fetterman in the U.S. Senate last November. And as far afield as Georgia, the might of the Union was on display to help push Raphael Warnock over the top in his own Senate race runoff in December.

1199 Home Care members convened at the New York State capital on January 25, for a press conference to urge lawmakers to pass a much-needed increase to the state’s minimum wage.

Rochester, NY - More than 100 nursing home workers at Unity Living Center have been working without a contract since July 31, 2022 when their three-year labor agreement expired. While the employer and the union have agreed to extend the contract multiple times, they have been unable to reach a new agreement. Caregivers are represented by 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East, the largest healthcare workers union in the country.

More than 200 nursing home workers at four rural facilities in Western New York are fighting for a fair contract. Their 3-year contract expired December 31, 2022. Union nursing home workers are represented by 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East.

On January 18, 1199ers joined virtually and in-person to reflect on 2022 to inform their 2023 plan to win higher wages and address inadequate staffing.
